Lutron’s RadioRA 2 Lighting Control System Does It All
Start here to learn everything about Lutron smart lighting.
When you think of lighting control, do you think of it as a luxury? It is indeed. But if you have a larger home, there are benefits to having a system to manage lighting beyond banks of light switches. Today's smart home lighting control solutions are more intelligent than ever before, and not only do they manage lights, but they integrate well with other smart home automation features too – making the whole greater than the sum of the parts. When it comes to smart home lighting, Bravo AV prefers Lutron. The company has been the innovator and industry leader in lighting control systems for decades, starting with the invention of the first dimmer in the 1950s. Their systems have gone way beyond the dimmer, as Lutron systems manage lighting in the iconic New York Times building in New York City. Lutron makes several lighting control solutions, but we want to focus on one that we think hits the sweet spot for a large variety of properties: RadioRA 2. The Lutron RadioRa2 system can cover a couple of rooms all the way to a 7500 square foot home with up to 200 controllable devices, so it's flexible enough to retrofit an existing home or fully automate a large house. Let’s explore some of the features of RadioRa2 and why it’s a great solution to add smart home lighting control to your New Jersey home.
Reliable Wireless Connectivity Some new lighting control solutions in the market rely on wireless protocols such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Zigbee. Lutron has its own patented radio frequency (RF) solution – Clear Connect Wireless - that is rock-solid and doesn't depend on a hub that may be used for something else in your home. Their RF solution is flexible and scalable and is free from interference from other wireless frequencies. When you want lights to go on and off, and dim or brighten precisely, they do. The wireless capability makes it easy to retrofit into existing homes as well as outfit new construction.
A Complete System RadioRA 2 is a complete lighting control system. It includes a variety of keypads, light switches, electric switch control, appliance control, sensors, and more to build a complete solution. Lutron also has smart thermostat and motorized shade solutions that can integrate with the lighting control. However, if you wish to use different solutions for those, RadioRA 2 works with a large variety of home automation solutions.
Design Options Lutron's wide variety of controls and wireless capability frees designers. Stylish controls like the wall mounted Grafik keypads are installed anywhere that it's convenient. Keypads are backlit, and custom etched, offering high visibility. A wide array of colors and finishes make the controls easy to integrate with any décor. Wireless thermostats like the Lutron Wireless and the Touchpro Wireless work with remote temperature sensors so the thermostats can be mounted wherever they best fit, and not where specific wires run.
Smartphone and Remote Control The Lutron Connect Bridge works with the RadioRA 2 system to add sophisticated remote-control capabilities through mobile apps. A “welcome” scene is triggered when you approach your home from your smartphone location. Instantly, lights turn on outside, in your hallway and the kitchen as you pull into your garage. Other possibilities include integrating your Sonos multi-room audio system with lighting control, so your welcome scene also turns on a favorite station or playlist, setting the perfect mood.
Unsurpassed Integration One of the beauties of Lutron smart lighting control solutions is that they work well with a vast variety of other smart solutions. Some examples include voice control through Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple’s Siri; integration into home automation systems like Savant and other major brands, thermostats from Honeywell and Nest, and security platforms like Alarm.com. When you invest in a Lutron system, you are not locked into Lutron-only solutions – you get many choices for other smart features.
